The Happiest Country In The World!

Dear friends and Family who actually read this blog and have expected so much more from it,

Things here in Vanuatu, voted the ahppiest country in the world, are going well. I can’t claim to be the happiest person in the world but this country definately feeds to my personality and needs. Its simple, and just …nice. I’m really quite busy here, and being that the internet connection is often slow I haven’t had the patience to sit down and type up very much.

As you’ve seen in previous posts I included a picture of my house. I live on one side of that and on the other side is a lady named Roselyn. We pay her to cook for us. Shes \wonderful,  really animated and always speaking Bislama. She LOVES phillipino love stories or really gory C Rate films about people being killed and eaten by cannibals. Sometimes I have the courage to tell her to turn it down, but sometimes I go to sleep to the deathly screams of an under paid actor with ketchup sprayed across her throat…. its lovely.

A lot has happened this two months, and it would take me too much to write up about all of it, but I will include some pictures so that there is a better idea of where I am and what I am doing. Hhopefully that will help some of you understand where I am. As my dad so humourously commented I have officially learned how to copy and paste pictures from the national geographic :D

So here are a few for your viewing pleasure:

  1. Beautiful little girl! What’s her name?

I just want to say how proud I am of you, and I am glad you are having a good time there. Mom told me a couple of weeks ago that you are staying until December GOOD FOR YOU! I hope the classes are fun for you to teach!

Anyways you know our little bit of news so when you get back hehe..I’ll be fat!

  2. well, I wasn’t happy for most of my year of service either, but looking back there were lots of joyful moments. As my friend Regan used to say, pain is only weakness leaving your body. I think that can be applied to mental, spiritual and emotional pain too. Hang in there, you are doing a great service to mankind! lots of love to you my dear.

  3. Hold on. First you cut out for a sleep over and don’t come home for weeks on end. Then I find out you’re not across town but you’re across an ocean. *throws my wrist to my forehead in a melodramatic gesture like a 1920’s silent film and sighs*

Okay. okay. I can handle the fact that your hanging out around an island resort in the south Pacific. I can even, maybe wrap myself around the fact that you have live-in waiting staff … but I am really struggling with the idea that you are slothing about all day watching Phillipino soaps and Friday Frightmare extravaganzas.

Girl, you have got to get a grip. I know you’re young and all. I know that it is paaarrrteee time and everything … but …. well … *flaps my hands up in the air with one of those I don’t know what to say gestures and sighs* …

*cough* … Chelsea Bun, honey, those newest cut and paste pictures from National Geo are really very, very lovely. I just wanted to say how proud I am that you know how to use a computer, and to write blogs and … ummm … hang with … people and … all that stuff. Is everything peachy? Do you need a limit raise on the Visa? I was noticing Samsung has a new very expensive, insanely kewl i-phone thingy out. Are you okay with last years model or should i Fed-Ex you the latest one?

I just know it must be very traumatic having to deal with all that sun and the beaches and everything but don’t you worry … I am waxing and polishing the BMW every weekend.

Oh an by the way, I want you to know I have decided to sacrifice something for humanity too … in your honour. I only go to Starbucks like … five times a wekk instead of every day.

luv ya. Kiss and hugs. Happy squeeze and an ewwwww, you go girl.

    *chuckle*
